The Federation of Sports Organizations of the Korea Sports Federation (KOF) has expressed regret over comments made by Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Yoo In-chon that aim to divide the KOF and sports organizations just one month before the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The 82 member sports organizations of the Federation released a statement on the 24th, claiming that Yoo’s remarks at a meeting between the Korea Volleyball Association and women’s national retired players four days earlier that “the sports system centered on the Korea Sports Federation has reached its limits,” and that “we will ensure autonomy for each sports organization to build a healthy ecosystem with its own mid- to long-term vision, and we will definitely reform the budget support system,” actually conveyed the intention of controlling sports organizations through budget support.
They also pointed out that Yoo’s remarks are in line with the National Sports Promotion Act, which mandates the KFA to provide guidance and support for the businesses and activities of affiliated sports organizations and sports organizations for living sports.
With no ceasefire in sight, the two sides, including the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the KOC, are heading for a predictable all-out war in the run-up to the Paris Olympics.
The two sides are expected to go head-to-head again over explosive post-Olympic issues, including the KFA’s request to amend its bylaws to remove the limit on consecutive terms for sports organization heads and the MOC’s refusal to approve it, and the debate over the establishment of the National Sports Commission as a sports control tower. 스포츠토토사이트
