Sun Yang, who has been accused of a doping violation, has stated that he will not retire and will continue to compete in the Paris Olympics.
“Swimming star” Sun Yang, 31, of China, who will not be able to compete in official events until June 2024 due to a doping violation, has expressed her desire to extend her career.
“Sun Yang has expressed her desire to return to the international stage in an interview with Chinese media,” AFP reported on Sunday.
“I never said I would quit swimming,” Sun Yang told the video outlet run by China’s Weibo, adding, “I have faced countless difficulties in the past, and I have come back. Setbacks make me stronger.”
The AFP news agency interpreted Sun Yang’s interview as a bid to compete in the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Sun Yang is a global swimming star with three Olympic gold medals and 11 world championship gold medals.
However, she has not competed since the 2019 World Championships in Gwangju.
In September 2018, Sun Yang was handed an eight-year ban for interfering with testers who visited his home in China to collect a doping control sample. The suspension began on February 28, 2020.
In a subsequent Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) review, Sun Yang’s suspension was reduced to four years and three months.
In June, Sun Yang said, “I am still training steadily. In 2024, I will be only 32 years old,” he said in June.
Despite not being able to compete at the Asian Games, 먹튀검증 which kick off in her hometown of Hangzhou on Nov. 23, Sun Yang hasn’t lost hope of making it to Paris.
