K League 1 runner-up Pohang wins 4-3 in theater after a nail-biting game

The Pohang Steelers, the second-ranked team in professional soccer’s K League 1, pulled off a dramatic victory over the Daejeon Hana Citizen in a back-and-forth match that saw seven goals traded.

Pohang defeated Daejeon 4-3 in the 27th round of the Hana One Q 텍사스홀덤 K League 2023 at Pohang Steel Yard on Tuesday.

Pohang remained unbeaten in six matches (three wins and three draws) and remained in second place.

They also continued their dominance in the head-to-head with Daejeon, winning 2-1.

Daejeon remained in seventh place (36 points).

Pohang took the lead with back-to-back goals from Zeca in the 41st minute of the first half and the sixth minute of the second half. It was Zeca’s seventh goal of the season, moving him into a tie for ninth place on the team’s scoring list.

Buoyed by the momentum, Pohang added a goal from Kim Seung-dae in the 31st minute of the second half to virtually seal the victory.

However, Daejeon’s onslaught began in the second half.

Thiago scored the game-winner in the 35th minute and completed his hat trick in the 38th minute and eight minutes of stoppage time to tie the game at 3-3 in the 51st minute.

With her 12th goal of the season, Thiago moved into sole possession of first place on the scoring list.

However, the goddess of victory was in Pohang’s favor. Hong Yun-sang, who came on as a substitute in the 35th minute, scored a theater goal with a header in the 53rd minute. It was his debut goal in the K League.
