Macau GGR down 10.8 pct m-o-m in Feb

Macau’s casino gross gaming revenue (GGR) fell 10.8% month-on-month to MOP 10.32 billion ($1.28 billion) in February, data from the Macau casino regulator Game Inspection and Coordination Bureau showed on Wednesday.

February earnings were up 33.1% year-on-year.

In 2022, all but the first day of the Lunar New Year holiday in mainland China was February. The 2022 holiday ran from January 31 to February 6.

February was the second straight month of MOP 10 billion following previous underperformance at the GGR amid periodic COVID-19 warnings and periodic adjustments to travel rules related to the Macau border with neighboring Guangdong province’s Zhuhai. Macau’s year-on-year GGR rise in recent months coincides with the end of mainland China and Macau’s respective “zero-corona” policies at the beginning of the year, when tourist numbers surged.

For the whole of 2022, Macau Casino GGR fell 51.4% year-on-year to $42.2 billion in MOP.
