A German journalist pulled out a Bayern Munich jersey with Harry Kane’s name on it during Tottenham’s preseason press conference.
The Daily Mail, a British media outlet, reported on May 22 (KST), “Enze Postecoglou took issue with the German journalist’s display of Kane’s name on the Munich jersey. Postecoglou appeared to explode as the German journalist waved the jersey around,” the Mail reported.
Tottenham held a press conference ahead of their preseason match against Leicester City. A reporter from German outlet Bild asked if Kane’s situation had changed, to which Postecoglou replied that “nothing has changed”. The Bild reporter then pulled out a Munich jersey. The jersey was emblazoned with Kane’s name and number 9. “Doesn’t it look good,” the Bild reporter said as he showed the jersey.
Postecoglou was uncomfortable. “I don’t know what you’re talking about. Did you have fun? It looks very good. Thank you for coming all the way to show me that jersey,” he said, sarcastically criticizing the Bild reporter’s behavior.
Munich are working hard to sign Kane. Coach Thomas Tuchel even flew to London to try and convince him to stay. But Tottenham’s position is stubborn. Spurs have rejected both of Munich’s offers. Munich’s first offer was €70 million, which Spurs rejected. Munich didn’t back down easily. They made a second offer of 80 million euros ($117 million). Tottenham’s position was the same this time. Tottenham wanted a much higher price than what Munich had offered. Spurs have reportedly set a price tag of £100 million ($165.8 billion) for Kane. Munich is not giving up and is preparing a third bid.
Munich has lost frontline player Robert Lewandowski to Barcelona. Lewandowski had been with the Bavarians since 2014, leading the Bundesliga in scoring for six seasons. Munich tried to fill the void left by Lewandowski, but it was a big one. Erik Choupo-Moting replaced Lewandowski, but it wasn’t enough. He only scored 10 goals. The club also tried to sign Sadio Mane from Liverpool, but it didn’t work out.
Without Lewandowski, Munich struggled to win the league title last season. They’ve been dominant in the Bundesliga in recent years, but last season they were outclassed by Dortmund. After losing the league title to Dortmund, Munich fired Julian Nagelsmann and hired Thomas Tuchel. Tuchel declared that a treble was the 바카라사이트 goal, but the Bavarians were eliminated in the quarterfinals of both the UEFA Champions League and DFB Pokal. They regained the top spot, only to be knocked back by Dortmund. Fortunately, they were spared as Dortmund lost to Mainz in the final.
Munich are looking to shake off last season’s disappointment with their signings. In defense, Luca Hernandez has left for Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and Cesc Fabregas is also on his way out. To bolster the defense, the club has pursued the signing of Kim Min-Jae. To bolster their offense, Munich have targeted Kane, who is arguably the best striker in the world right now.
Despite the difficulties, the Bavarians are still confident of landing Kane. According to the German ‘Kicker’, honorary chairman Uli Hoeneß said, “Mr. Levy is clever. We have to make him say a specific amount. He is ‘stalling for time’. This is not the first time this has happened. Kane has made it clear that he wants to join us and we will get him.”
Kane is Mr. Tottenham Kane made his debut for Spurs after bouncing around on loan through Tottenham’s youth ranks. As he gained experience, he developed into a top striker. Kane has scored 280 goals in 435 appearances for Tottenham. Unsurprisingly, he is Tottenham’s all-time leading scorer. His 213 goals in the English Premier League (EPL) make him second on the all-time scoring list behind Alan Shearer’s 260, and he’s also England’s all-time leading scorer with 58 goals for the national team.
Kane isn’t just a goal scorer. His link-up play and passing is as good as any midfielder. He can get downfield, link up with players, create chances, and pass forward. And his ability to create goals from anywhere is superb. Last season was no different. He scored 30 goals in the EPL, second only to Elling Holland. He was responsible for 30 of Tottenham’s 70 total goals last season.
Kane has become one of the best strikers in the world. However, there’s one thing that’s missing: a team career. Despite his many individual awards, Kane has never lifted a trophy with a team. Not with Tottenham, not with the England national team. For a player who is desperate to win, a move to Munich is bound to be appealing. The Bavarians are looking to add Kane to their squad to help them challenge for the UCL title.
