A video of Bayern Munich’s new coach Vincent Kompany’s past is making waves. During his time in charge of Burnley, he shouted harsh words at a player in training, leading fans to criticize his character.
“A behind-the-scenes documentary shows Vincent Kompany swearing at Burnley star Johann Berg Gudmundsson 15 times,” the Daily Mail reported on Dec. 12, adding, “Fans claim his anger would not be accepted at Bayern Munich.”
Kompany’s character was revealed in a documentary made during his two-year stint as Burnley manager before his arrival in Munich. The documentary, titled “Mission to Burnley,” is being shown on Sky Sports in the U.K., and the third installment, which aired last week, shows Kompany swearing.
“Kompany is heard aggressively confronting Gudmundsson and swearing at him 15 times in less than a minute,” the outlet said. “Gudmundsson tries to walk away from Kompany, but Kompany follows him and continues to verbally attack him. Kompany was muttering profanities himself.”
Fans have voiced concerns about Kompany’s character. “It’s terrible to denigrate and insult someone in front of others,” “This is classic bullying,” and “Kompany has created a toxic atmosphere at the club,” among other comments.
Kompany left his playing career at his hometown club, Belgian side Anderlecht, in August 2020 and immediately began his managerial career. He spent two years in charge of Anderlecht before taking over at Burnley in June 2022, when the club was in the English second tier.
His results were remarkable, as he led Burnley to the second division title in his first season and promoted them back to the Premier League within two seasons. Kompany dominated England’s second division with his attacking style of soccer and won promotion.
But the barriers in the Premier League were high. Kompany’s tactics of pressing high up the pitch and playing with a high defensive line didn’t work well against Premier League teams. Burnley dropped back down to the second tier after just one season with a poor record of five wins, nine draws, and 24 losses in 38 league games.
Kompany seemed to be poised for a second chance at 온라인카지노사이트 Burnley. Burnley won promotion to the Premier League last year and Kompany signed a new contract that will keep him at the club until 2028, so it was hard to imagine him taking a job elsewhere.
Kompany came from an unlikely place. German giants Bayern Munich, who ended last season without a title in 12 years, considered him as a possible successor to Thomas Tuchel and quickly signed him. Other coaches had been considered, but Munich chose to stick with Kompany.
Munich announced the three-year deal with Kompany on their official website in May, and he began leading the club in preseason.
Kompany gained a favorable image in Munich with his elder brother leadership, as he was close to the players and friendly. He also smiled and praised Kim Min-jae. He was even seen on Munich’s social media handholding and coaching Eric Dier, who was competing with Kim for the starting role.
However, after the video of him at Burnley was released, there were concerns that he would do the same at Munich, while others said he would not be able to do so in Munich. Munich have more star players than Burnley and would be quickly sacked for doing so.
The mood in Munich is very good after the appointment of Kompany. The Bavarians have won three and drawn one of their four friendlies in preseason. The team won both games against Tottenham Hotspur in South Korea and England to keep the momentum going.
Kompany’s Munich will play their final preseason game against WSG Tirol on Sept. 14 before opening the 2024-2025 season away to SSV Ulm 1846 in the first round of the DFB Pokal on Sept. 17. The league opener is away to Wolfsburg on Sept. 25.
