“I don’t know why our team keeps having matches in Ulsan and Pohang.”
Doosan Bears manager Lee Seung-yeop has unusually raised his voice and expressed strong dissatisfaction with the allocation of professional baseball games.
Manager Lee Seung-yeop frowned when asked about the three-game series against the Samsung Lions to be held at Pohang Stadium from the 20th to the 22nd of this month, ahead of the home game against the LG Twins in the 2023 professional baseball league to be held at Jamsil Stadium in Seoul on the 6th.
Manager Lee Seung-yeop said, “Last year, we went to Ulsan and then Pohang during the hot summer, and this year is the same,” and “We are the only ones playing the three-game series in Ulsan and the three-game series in Pohang.”
He continued, “It is too harsh to play on an artificial grass field in the middle of summer,” and criticized, “It has a huge negative impact on the players’ physical strength. Also, the travel distance is a problem. It is an unacceptable schedule.”
When asked, “Don’t you have many good memories of 커뮤니티 Pohang (when you were a player)?” Manager Lee Seung-yeop did not back down, saying, “I’m a manager leading the team now,” and, “If I go alone, I can go in 50-degree heat. I’ll say what I want to say.”
Since last season when manager Lee Seung-yeop took office, Doosan has been playing a total of six games, three each at Lotte Giants’ second stadium, Ulsan Munsu Stadium, and Samsung’s second stadium, Pohang Stadium.
Last year, from June 30 to July 2, they played three games against Lotte at Ulsan Munsu Stadium, and from July 4 to 6, they played three games against Samsung at Pohang Stadium.
This year, they played three consecutive games against Lotte in Ulsan from the 16th to the 18th of last month, and they have to go on an away game to Pohang at the end of this month.
Doosan is the only team that has played both Pohang and Ulsan games in the past two years.
