For Suwon Samsung coach Byun Sung-hwan, a 10-match unbeaten streak doesn’t mean much. He’s already thinking about the next game.
Suwon won 2-1 at home against FC Anyang in the 26th round of the Hana Bank K League 2 2024 at the Yongin Mir Stadium at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
Suwon, who have been temporarily relocated to Yongin due to the construction of their home stadium, Suwon World Cup Stadium, won their first official match and maintained their unbeaten record of four wins and six draws in 10 matches since Byun Sung-hwan took over as head coach. The ‘Jijidae Derby’ rivals and leaders Anyang maintained their momentum and moved level on points with fourth-placed Chungnam Asan (37 points) on 10 wins, seven draws and seven losses.
Suwon opened the scoring in the first half with a goal from Kim Ji-ho, before Mulicic added a second early in the second half to secure the win. Despite conceding a goal to Lee Tae-hee off a set-piece in stoppage time, they managed to hold on to their one-point lead to secure the three points.
After the game, head coach Byun Sung-hwan said, “We really wanted to win this game because it was a good stepping stone for us, and I asked the players to be competitive today. It was unfortunate that we couldn’t keep a clean sheet at the end. Outside of the game, I was saddened to hear about Baek Dong-gyu’s family after the game. The players and I were saddened to hear the news together. I hope they find peace of mind soon.”
Kim Ji-ho, born in 2003, has been playing well. “I knew he was good,” said coach Byun Sung-hwan. I’ve known him since he was 7 years old. I’ve been watching how he has developed. After I took over, we needed a player with character on the flank, so I asked (Kim) to join us and he was very happy to accept. We didn’t talk 안전한 파워볼사이트 much after he came in. We know each other well without talking, so he played for me and I gave him a chance. I’m pretty happy with that.”
Suwon had a number of players make their debuts today, including Cho Sung-hoon, Lee Jae-wook, Paulinho, and Milat. Coach Byun Sung-hwan said, “We had a lot of debutants today, but we showed good organization. I want to thank them for preparing well over the past two weeks. Milat has been struggling with the weather since he arrived in Korea. It’s only been a week since we started training in earnest. But I think he did a great job today,” said the coach, who also praised Paulinho, who showed his full potential, and Lee Jae-Wook, who was a good partner for Hong Won-Jin.
“Yang Hyung-mo has an elbow injury, but he will be back soon. Park Ji-min has been waiting and preparing for his chance, but after blocking their first shot today, he felt discomfort in his thigh, so (Cho) Sung-hoon came in. It was his first game and I’m proud of his steady performance.”
The victory made it four wins, six draws and no losses in 10 games since Byun took charge of Suwon. “I don’t have much emotion,” said Byun. I saw it in the media earlier, but I didn’t pay much attention to it. I’m thinking to myself that I’ve drawn and lost. In the previous matches, I was angry because we didn’t win, and I was angry because we didn’t overturn the result. I’m not too concerned (about the 10-match unbeaten streak).”
Byun Sung-hwan was happy to get his first win at his temporary home, Yongin Mir Stadium. “I’m happy right now. First impressions and first feelings are always important, and I had a good feeling when I came to Mir. I’m happy that we were able to get a good result. But it’s over now. I’m already thinking about the next game against Jeonnam Dragons. Coach Lee has always told me that Suwon should be at the top of the table, and I’m determined to catch them and make them lose back-to-back games.”
