Will Tuchel stay at the helm in Munich for another season?
“Thomas Tuchel has not ruled out the possibility of staying at Bayern Munich despite agreeing to leave the club at the end of the season,” British outlet Sports Bible reported on Thursday.
The Bavarians had announced their decision to part ways with Tuchel after a string of poor results. “FC Bayern München and coach Thomas Tuchel have jointly decided to terminate their mutual cooperation as of June 30, 2024, which was originally scheduled to run until June 30, 2025,” the club announced on its website on Feb. 21 (local time). Despite being under contract until 2025, Munich’s decision to part ways with Tuchel comes after three consecutive defeats in all competitions and a second-place finish in the Bundesliga, eight points behind leaders Bayer Leverkusen.
After news broke of Tuchel’s departure from Munich, many names were thrown around as possible replacements, including Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann, who was sacked in 2023. However, he later decided to stay on as the national team coach for the long term, until 2026.
Other candidates included Brighton and Hove Albion boss Roberto De Zerbi and former Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane. None of these targets materialized when it came to taking the reins ahead of the new season, and after witnessing Barcelona’s Xavi make a U-turn, Tuchel admitted that he could do the same.
Asked about his agreement to end his collaboration with the club at the end of this 안전놀이터 season, Tuchel said: “That’s what we agreed. But we can terminate any contract jointly. We had an existing contract and we agreed to end it earlier, so anything is possible, but the answer is the same. The contract is valid and the contract exists.”
Tuchel has also been linked with the Manchester United job, while pressure continues to mount on current manager Eric ten Hach. Bayern Munich topped Group A in the Champions League earlier this season, while United finished last.
Tuchel’s men drew 2-2 with Real Madrid in the first leg of their semifinal midweek and will face the winner of the second leg on Sept. 9 (ET) to determine the finalists.
